Nathan Edwards: September 2009 Hoofer of the Month!

Nathan Edwards: the Man, the Legend, the Hoofer of the Month, September 2009.

I am pleased to announce that the September 2009 Hoofer of the Month award goes to Nathan Edwards, a relatively new member who has proved himself to be not only an amiable trip participant, but also a skilled handyman! After our Door County Labor Day trip, he noticed that a few of our stoves could use tweaking and took the initiative to repair the Outing Club's entire collection of camp stoves. This is no small task; Nathan volunteered many hours of his time to get our stoves in tip top shape. Not only is he adept at fixing gear, but his good-natured, patient disposition and generous spirit makes him a model Hoofer. In other words, I'd adventure with Nathan any day. The Outing Club is lucky to have him in our ranks.

Congratulations, Nathan! You've earned it.

HOTM background

FACT: Hoofer Outing Club is run almost solely by volunteers. Members donate their time and energy to leading trips, lessons, and maintaining our club gear---motivated not by monetary compensation but instead by love for an activity, commitment to the club, and a sense of community with their fellow Hoofers. This aspect of the club speaks to the character of our leaders and to the overall culture of our organization. The Outing Club is fortunate to have a plethora of incredible leaders, and recognizing them is important to the Executive Board. That's why every month the Outing Club honors one member who has gone above and beyond his or her responsibilities to the club by leading trips and lessons, helping maintain gear, or just for being generally outstanding.
