The Hoofer Sailing Club will collaborate again this year with UW-Madison's Horticulture Department for the 5th Annual Giant Pumpkin Regatta, on the Memorial Union lakefront on Saturday, October 10 at 12:30 pm.
Horticulture students who grew large pumpkins this fall will carve them out and use them as makeshift boats (stabilized by tractor-tire inner tubes) to paddle over a course in a series of races. These pumpkins are about three feet in diameter.
Anyone who wants to participate will have the opportunity to race in their own giant pumpkin. All are welcome to watch this unique race from the Terrace, but spectators will not be allowed on Hoofer piers.
For more information on the Great Pumpkin Regatta, contact James Nienhuis, Horticulture Department, nienhuis@wisc.edu . For more information about the Hoofers Sailing Club, contact Erica Dederich, vc@hoofersailing.org, 262-1630.
